Leather Cord Spiral Knot DIY Lesson
1. Folding the Cord and Initial Setup
We will begin by folding your desired length of cord in half and placing it on a securing hook of some kind.
2. Creating the Spiral with a Separate Cord
Taking a separate piece of leather, loop or coil it around your main strands as many times as desired. Thread both ends of the same cord used to spiral through the loops. The cord on top will go down through the loops, and the cord on the bottom will go up through the loops. Pull both ends lightly to tighten.
3. Securing and Finishing the Spiral Knot
Add a drop of glue to the area you would like the spiral knot to be. Slide your spiral knot over the glue and pull each end to tighten. Use a cutting tool to snip off the two ends of your spiral knot. You may want to add a drop of glue here to help keep your spiral knot secured.
4. Alternative Technique: Using a Single Cord
You can use this technique using only one cord. We will take a single strand of cord, folding it over a securing hook. We are going to secure one side of the cord side A, leaving the other side B loose and available to spiral. Start looping or coiling side B upwards around both side A and B. Loop as many times as desired. We are now going to feed the end of cord B back down through the loops you've created, pulling lightly to tighten.
5. Adjusting and Securing the Single-Cord Knot
At this point, you can slide the knot to your desired location. You may add glue for extra security. Trim the excess cording if desired.
